Questions people ask about car repair receipt
Is a handwritten receipt acceptable?
Legally, usually. Practically, it is the version most often illegible when it matters, and the one you have no copy of. If you write by hand, write two and keep one.
Should the receipt show the labor hours?
Showing the hours and the rate rather than a single labor figure is more transparent and tends to produce fewer questions rather than more, because the customer can see what they are paying for.
Do we need to keep receipts as well as invoices?
Keep one clean record per job that shows what was charged and what was paid. Whether that is two documents or one annotated document is a matter for your bookkeeping, but the job should be findable from the plate either way.
